Doo Wop Night

Last night Billy and I went to see Street Corner Renaissance, a doo-wop a capella group, at The Catalina Jazz Bar & Grill.

I love doo-wop music and there aren't very many places that play this music so I was thrilled to be able to see it live.  There's so much power and warmth in hearing doo-wop music, especially when sung a capella.  The Catalina Jazz Club has great live music pretty much every night.  I definitely recommend seeing a show here.  The venue is small and the entertainment is always good.

The show  was amazing...very close to one of the best shows I've ever seen (running in close race with Mint Condition).  These men are extremely talented and great entertainers.  I enjoyed every moment of it. Even Billy enjoyed it and he doesn't even like doo wop music, it was that good.

I can't do Street Corner Renaissance justice by talking about them so please, check out their music, click here.

Sending love to Sandy Hook Elementary

When I heard this news on Friday morning I was and still am devastated. May peace and love be with all the people of Newtown, Connecticut and everyone else touched by the lives lost.

What I'm Wearing...Holiday

The holiday season is filled with lots of get-togethers with everyone from family, friends and even coworkers.  It can be a lot of fun to dress up for the occasions, most people even buy entire new holiday outfits this time of year.  It's difficult not to shop for yourself when you're shopping for others.

Contrary to what a lot of people think, I don't shop for myself as much as I shop for others (maybe that's why I do what I do).  Everything I wore to this weekend's holiday party was bought a while ago, the newest being the shoes which were bought over the summer.  I had to have them, they're rose gold!  The jacket is about 3 years old and the dress I wore last year for new years.  You can also recycle your clothes as long as you buy quality pieces, it's easy and fun to mix and match to create new looks.  It's also necessary when you're ballin on a budget (like me).

Sorry that I had to take mirror pictures to show  you my outfit.  I don't have a professional photographer that follows me around like a lot of the other bloggers out there.  It's just me (by myself, one iPhone). ;)

Thank you for coming by! Happy Holidays and be safe out there!

xoxo

Disney Channel Holiday Promotion

I got the opportunity to style Olivia Holt of Disney XD's Kickin' It for this Disney Channel Holiday promotion.  I love working with Olivia; she is sweet and loves pretty much everything I bring to her.

We wanted to do something Holiday-esque without being too dressy or too literal.  I love metallics during the cold months, something about sparkle when it's cold outside is so fun and lively.  I love this golden color because it can be worn from fall through the winter, it's very warm and looks good on most skin tones.

Styling Olivia is fun because she let's me put a twist on traditional outfits. For example this one here: it's a button front shirt with a pullover sweater but the shirt has a flowy draped effect and cool studs on the collar, sweater has a great stripe texture, not your traditional solid. Pair this with her awesome colored jeans, they have a waxy red finish and front ankle zippers! I topped it off with a few small gold accessories and pearls, Olivia's own black booties and we have her complete look!

Doesn't she look great? I love this outfit!

What I'm Wearing

Antanice took this picture of me when we were wedding planning...I don't accessorize much but have a mint bangle to represent one of the colors for her wedding.
This is basically my uniform...legging pants, a flowy top, a chambray shirt and my Marc by Marc nylon satchel.  I just got these dunks and I love them (they have a hidden wedge)! =) I have been wearing them with everything.

Warby Parker Home Try On

I've been wanting to get a pair of Warby Parkers for a while now but didn't need a new pair of eye glasses or sunglasses until last week...I lost my Ray Bans...It was a very sad loss...I've had those sunnies for over 2 years. =(
But thank you to Warby Parker Home Try On...I have a pair coming to my home very soon.
The Home Try On is wonderful: 5 pairs, 5 days, all shipping included, and it's FREE! There's no obligation to buy!
I received the package within 2 days of placing the order.  The glasses came protected and labeled so I know exactly which pair to order.

DMX Sings Rudolph

The holidays are upon us and everywhere we hear Christmas songs...I think they start playing them earlier and earlier every year; it used to be after Thanksgiving but I think they started the day after Halloween this year.  There's a few songs that I absolutely love like "Last Christmas" by WHAM or "The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole but this year, I've added a new favorite: "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" by DMX.

I love DMX's rendition for many reasons: the way he sing/barks the lyrics, the beat he drops for himself by banging on the table, his chains clinging together like bells (very holiday-esque), but my most favorite is the added "Come on!" and "Forever..."

Thank you DMX for singing this song.  I've never really enjoyed this song but it is now a holiday favorite.
