DIY: Screen for Front Door

The summer has brought so much heat and even though fall is here, it still gets really hot in LA, today it was 85*. I do not have a cooling system in my apartment so it is often hotter than outside.  I love having the windows and front door open but don't like that people can see into my apartment. We can't install any screen doors where I live so I decided to make a temporary screen door/ curtain for my front door.  I looked up some ideas online and here's what I came up with...

Supplies:
1. 2 1/2 yards Mesh fabric/ Netting,

Sunrid fabric from Ikea
I got mine at Ikea.  The SunRid 59" in
     white.  It was only $0.99/yard!
2. Thread to match
3. Tension curtain rod
I bought one at Target for $4.
4. Scissors
5. Measuring tape/yardstick
6. Sewing Machine

Instructions:
1.  Cut the fabric down the middle lengthwise.  This will be your opening to enter in and out.

2.  Now we have 2 pieces of fabric. Fold the top edge of fabric down 1", sew a straight line from width to width.  Do this for both pieces.
Supplies

3.  Now there's a pocket for your rod to go through.  Put the rod through the pockets!

4. Now here you can either, measure the length of the door and cut the fabric to length OR do what I did, hang the rod with the fabric in the door way and see where it hits the ground and cut there!

5. Enjoy the breeze and the sunshine without worry of people seeing in your place and no buggies.

Options to add:
1. Sew/glue magnets to the edges of the fabric that meet down the center for more closure.

2. Add a tension rod on the bottom hem, this will create a taught screen.  (I was going to do this but my dog, Max would trip over it so I opted not.)
Pinning the fabric keeps it from moving and you can keep a straight line while sewing.
Cutting the fabric on a flat surface is easier, I did mine on the floor.
A look from the outside and from the inside.

Drifter Stills

Drifter is a short I worked on with a friend, Adam Christy.  Adam is a talented actor, as well as writer and director. Though he did not act in this film he wrote, directed, and produced it.  Thanks to Adam for letting me part of this cool project.

July 4th and The Best Day ever!

My 2 best friends came to visit me for a celebration that will never be forgotten! Introducing Antanice and Janelle....

Antanice arrived on the 4th, and we went to my friend Hope's place for a small get together. We ate some food, took some pictures and watched fireworks on the beach.
Max gave Antanice a kiss without warning.
Me giving Antanice some love.

Janelle couldn't make it to the July 4th activities but we picked her up first thing on Friday July 5th--that was the day of the main event anyway. We went to get massages and manicures/pedicures at The Room Organic in Toluca Lake in the morning, followed by a delicious late lunch at Cha Cha Cha's. Unfortunately no pics of our massages/nail treatments but I will say this, it was the BEST massage I ever had. Here's what we had at Cha Cha Cha's along with a pitcher of red sangria...we divided that up quickly so no pics.
Goat Cheese and Garlic Pizza
Banana Boat: Stuffed Plantains with Mango Relish
I forget what this is called but it was basically Skrimp Ball delicious

And the fun continues to the main event...NEW JACK SWING CONCERT at the Greek Theatre brought to you by HOT 92.3, the line up included Al.B Sure, Dru Hill, SWV, Tony Toni Tone, and Guy. LAWD HAB MERCY these men had me dying and the ladies of SWV killed it, they are so beautiful and sound exactly the same after all these years. I wish I could share with you the music that we heard that evening but I do not know how to do that on here...I will post some original songs that were performed that night. If you visit my Instagram @NESSADOAN (or check out my Instagram widget in the right hand of the page) there's an SWV video you can watch.

The Voice Season 4 Finale

Hi friends!
So sorry to not be posting lately, I've been very busy with work and my best friend got married! (Congratulations to Antanice and James!)
I hope you guys tune in to the finale of The Voice, it's been so fun to be able to work on this season.  There has been so much talent, growth, and overall good positive energy from this group.  I feel so happy to have shared this season with all the people at The Voice.  You all are great!
Here's a look back to a few of my favorites of the season. It's very obvious which kind of music I enjoy from my picks, basically anything that makes my heart ache.
