B.K.S Iyengar
Discovering Iyengar yoga and having it become an essential part of my life has transformed me. It has helped me through the most difficult times of my life; it has healed me from so many ailments of my body, heart, and mind. I am so grateful for yoga and I am so grateful for Guriji B.K.S Iyengar. (You can learn more about his story, here.)
Here's to a person I never met, but has helped me bring me to my truest self. When I found out that Guruji had passed, a surge of overwhelming sadness came into my soul. I guess just knowing that such an incredible human being is no longer with us on this earth, hurts a little. He has influenced my life in the greatest way possible; his teachings are bringing me to my best self, reaffirms the path I've chosen to live and I am so grateful.
I recently applied for Geeta's (his daughter) 70th birthday celebration in Pune, India which will be happening in December. Fingers crossed that I make it there and back, so I can share everything I learn with you all!
You are dearly missed Guruji, your legacy lives on through all of us every time we practice.
Namaste.

Free From Suffering
I recently read an article on Yoga Journal, Ultimate Practice by Kate Holcombe. She writes about how yoga takes us closer to our SELF and away from suffering. Oh, I loved this article so much and it's funny how things always come when we need affirmation or a little clarity. I've been recognizing myself in separate pieces, body, mind, spirit, heart, and ego; Holcombe talks about how yoga helps us recognize between the different parts of ourselves but the most important and steady part of us is our Self.
Feeling is a part of healing. We may not want to let ourselves feel pain but through the pain, and hardship, on the other side, we bring ourselves closer to our true Self. It feels like we are out of control of our life, that showing any kind of deep emotion is viewed as weak. On the contrary, when we let ourselves feel, we are letting our Self exist without judgement. It takes more strength to let ourselves be than try to control with our mind what we think we should be. It takes so much more effort to try to convince ourselves of what we are not feeling rather than just feeling it. If we are constantly "controlling our emotions" we are hiding from ourselves, there's no growth there. There must be a struggle for strength to come. If we push everything away, how will we ever become better human beings, blissful human beings?
In my practice of yoga, I've become physically more flexible, stronger and balanced but more significantly is the flexibility, strength and balance of my mind. In practicing physically, without trying, I've become more refined from within, and my body has also benefited. The practice of yoga has helped me steady the undulations of my mind. So when the outside world brings me troubles or hardships, I can move through these experiences with grace. I am free from suffering.
It really isn't simple and consistency is key. It is extremely difficult to practice not being distracted by our mind, and the environment we are in. The society we live in throws so many things in our faces about what we should be doing, all these transient things that take us away from who we really are. It kills me. It kills me to see our youth taking part in so many frivolous matters, distracting themselves from their true Self. We keep our physical and mental body so busy that we don't have the time to hear our self. It takes a lot of practice, and through practice and recognition of all our parts, we will bring ourselves to our true Self.
From this place of connection, you can observe your emotions and
reactions and recognize them as separate from your true nature, valid
and painful though they may be. This is the promise of yoga. And while
the process of getting there may not be simple, the end result is easy
to understand: We feel better. -K. Holcombe

If it sounds simple, it isn't...It's entirely another to practice consistently enough to actually experience it. But this is why we practice. -K. Holcombe
Some of this may sound crazy, very abstract, and silly to some of you but for those of you wanting and willing to be your better you, I commend you for stepping out of fear, moving forwards with uncertainty and towards your true Self.
Sending you all so much love and peace.

Meditation Mondays: Day 20 Visionary Me
Day 20 Visionary Me
To learn about what I'm posting, click here.
To do your own meditations with Deepak, go here.
Connecting to others fulfills us and enables us to help others find fulfillment as well.
Let's explore. Reach out to those who intrigue you. Reach out to those who you want to talk to but for some reason have inhibitions. Afraid of rejection? Fear is only in our mind. Be open to others and others will be open to you.
Enrich your life with the spirits that light you up!
Deep connections seem hard to find and even harder to sustain. Life gets in the way, "being busy." Fear gets in the way but spirit brings us closer than just "things in common." Spirit connects us so deeply that when we are not around each other, we can still feel each other.
When you miss someone, that's your spirit calling out for them. That achey longing feeling, sometimes so terrible we can't bear and we want to distract ourselves from it, but that's just a calling to keep the connections alive.
Oprah says, "Everything I know is better when I share it."
Yes! Agreed, Oprah. I love sharing. I want to share and enjoy sharing with those around me. Through sharing we connect ourselves to the spirits around us. Sharing is part of our fulfillment as human beings.
Sharing is showing our love. It's extending a piece of our self to someone else. It's showing a bit of our self, our spirit to someone else. When we do this, others will not be so afraid to do the same. Sometimes we do not share, we do not put ourselves out there because of fear. When we open ourselves to the world, the world opens itself up to us.
What we speak comes to life. When we say we cannot do something, we won't. But if you say, "Yes, I can, I believe. I will do my best." Everything in the Universe will work itself out so you can be the best you. Words inform our action, empowers our intention.
It is the practice of sharing wisdom, perspective with others that brings us closer to who we really are. In sharing our perspective we must be open to others perspective as well. Though we may not see the world the way others do, being open to other perspectives enrich our lives. Let your guard down.

Meditation Mondays: Day 19 Blissful Me
Day 19 Blissful Me
To learn a bit about what I'm posting, click here.
To do your own meditations, go here.
Bliss is an all encompassing holding place for joy, happiness and peace.
What brings you the greatest joy? What makes time fly and you could do forever without care? This is your bliss.
When we find ourselves engaged in activities and with people who make our heart sing we are grounded in the present and deeply connected to true spirit. Connecting to our true spirit brings us closer to our purpose and brings us closer to our potential as a person.
Spend a moment connecting with bliss in an everyday moment like your meal or your shower. Take a moment to feel and connect all your senses. How does this feel in your body? Your mind? Your heart?
I believe being in the present is so important. I don't know why I live my life the way I do, maybe I'm listening to my heart? My spirit? I try to be as present as possible though sometimes people or ideas take me away from the present and cause inhibitions, fear and anxiety.
When we identify what makes us happy, abundance follows.
There is nothing as rich or real as bliss. Be in bliss, be in stillness.
Bliss does not necessarily make sense logically but it's a feeling you have that you are where you are supposed to be. In your bliss, nothing else matters, you are completely enveloped in your present.
What is your bliss? What do you enjoy doing that time flies and your heart takes wing? Doing what makes us happy will bring more things that will make us happy.
Let go of your inhibitions. Let go of what you think should be and just be, here. Being present will take you blissfully to your future.
It's scary to let go and just do the things we are passionate about. Our ego asks questions like how In doing what our heart desires will lead us to our blissful future, sometimes places we did not know we wanted to be.

Meditation Mondays: Day 18 Creative Me
Day 18 Creative Me

Play play play! When we play, we can let go of a challenge and engage in something that frees our mind, lightning strikes.
Play opens pathways for creativity to flow. When we play we engage the heart rather than leading with our mind. When we let go, engage in pure play and laughter can the universe's message meet us. Be open and receptive to your life's purpose. Cultivate your creativity through pure simple joy.
As adults, we get caught up in our responsibilities we forget to engage in play. It may seem silly to some but there is something powerful about enjoying an activity freely, boundless, and worry free.
When we let go of our worries, our perceptions of the future, enjoy the present moment, the Universe will bring us answers. Play is a time to engage in an activity which lifts your spirit. Play is YOUR time to let your heart be full and let go of your worries and concerns. When we let go and have fun, we release our ego and all the "shoulds" and "can'ts" that flood our mind. Play is important in finding our purpose.
Rest and play are not luxuries, they are part of our being. We cultivate some of our best ideas when we have a balance of rest and play. Rest is important. (I cherish my rest and people tease me about being an old lady but I need my rest! This world is running me ragged, I do what I can to be my best self.) In our society, some people pride themselves on not getting enough rest, it makes them feel important that they have so many responsibilities they don't have time for themselves. They have many dedications and responsibilities. True dedication is balance.
Sometimes it's hard to follow our passions. The world has many distractions but in silence, in stillness, we can hear what our heart says. Even when life is hard, when we do things that light up our hearts, we are on the path on which we belong.
This life is the only life we will know. Why not do the things that light up our life? Play more. Worry less.

Meditation Mondays: Day 17 Inspirational Me
Day 17 Inspirational Me
To learn what I'm posting, click here.
To do your own meditations with Deepak, go here.
Inspiration can come from things we see or hear, experiences, even people; it's just that feeling we get that makes our spirit filled with warm energy. When something or someone makes us feel this way, they are our inspiration. Inspiration makes us feel uplifted, it makes us feel there is so much more in this Universe to understand, to know, to love, to be than what we are right now.
Inspiration lifts us up to be a better us. Inspiration evokes passion, passion comes from love, love comes from our heart & soul telling us, "This is good. This is food for your soul!"
People who inspire us are special beings. We all have something in us to inspire others. Embrace the inspiration you are to others and embrace the inspiration of who others are to you.
We can inspire others everyday through engaging fully in life, taking chances, loving with all our heart, accepting that life is up and down. I love hearing when people go to new places or find new passions, that's inspiring. It's the lack of fear which lets us live our greatest and most full life! I want to live fully, full of happiness even despair.
You can be an inspiration to others and look around to those who inspire you. What do they do that inspire you? What about them inspires you? Tell them, because how nice would it be for someone to share that with you.
I hope that you are all able to recognize the people and things that inspire you and just drown yourself in it.

The greatest inspirations come from feeling something we have never felt before. Gaining
insight that changes our perspective is inspiration. This is a new
perspective for my understanding of inspiration but it is so true! Have
you ever met someone and by being in their presence you feel an instant
surge of positive energy, but you don't know why? That's inspiration!
Some people make us look at the world in a different way, not by forcing their perspectives on us but by just being who they are. Changing of perspective is good, we are allowed to change our
perspectives-if we don't we will never grow, never be better. Sometimes our ego makes us feel we must stick to what we know but
through inspiration, understanding, and humility we can change our
perspective which brings us closer to who we really are.

We all have a unique essential purpose. There is no one like you. Your life purpose is yours! And it's constantly changing. What lights up your spirit? Let yourself enjoy living, while you are living. Do what speaks to your soul. Embrace the good. There's only a few things that truly lift our spirits, DO THOSE THINGS!
Do we not let ourselves be happy because there has been so much pain in the past? Are we afraid? If you love something, go for it. Yes it will be hard, yes we don't know if it will be stable, yes it is uncertain. But you LOVE it, so go! Love has a funny way of working everything out so we can live blissfully, as long as we are willing to let go. Sometimes we put things away, hide them deep in ourselves because we don't want to feel pain or struggle. Pain and struggle reminds us we are living. We have a soul.
When we are able to recognize our purpose we create a universe of peace, harmony and love, fullfilling our destiny to change the world for good.

Think about what you love to do, let that guide you. Let bliss be your guide, let love be your guide.
Follow your heart. PLEASE, let your soul live its purpose. There are so many distractions in this world taking us further away from our truest self, take a moment and ask yourself what really makes you happy? What brings your spirit the deepest joy and greatest happiness?
